Manuscript Submissions

Lake Press is one of Australia’s leading independent children’s publishers.  We publish across all categories of illustrated books from 0–8 years of age, and have quickly established a reputation for innovation and quality of content.

We welcome submissions from literary agents, as well as new and established authors. Submissions must only be a digital copy and emailed to submissions@lakepress.com.au with ‘Lake Press Manuscript Submission’ as the subject. We no longer accept hard-copy manuscripts sent to our street address.

To ensure that your submission will be accepted, we kindly request the following:

• Manuscripts must be typed and sent as Microsoft Word documents or PDFs, in an easy-to-read typeface/font, with a wide margin. Please make sure pages are numbered if there are more than two pages. We only accept manuscripts that are sent digitally, to the above email address.
• If you already have an illustrator in mind for your manuscript or some illustrations have already been completed, please include a selection of sample illustrations (not originals), and indicate how the artwork would be supplied if we proceeded to publish your manuscript.
• A written proposal (1 to 2 pages) should accompany your manuscript. This should explain what your submission is about, why it should be published, who will buy it (i.e. the intended audience), and how it differs from other similar books on the market (refer to any competing titles that you know of).
• Tell us about yourself. List any previous published works if you have any, specify your qualifications, and outline how you could be involved in promoting and selling your book.

Ensure that you include all of your contact details: name, street address, phone number and email address. Lake Press does not carry insurance for submitted manuscripts, so always keep a copy of your original work.

NOTE: We receive a large number of submissions every month and each manuscript is carefully read and assessed accordingly. Our aim is to respond to each and every submission; however, if we do not contact you within three months of your submission date, please assume that we have decided not to pursue your manuscript and we will not be in touch directly. While our best efforts will be taken to contact you, this is unfortunately not our main job so it may not always be possible.
